Thank you for looking after mum. I am so grateful for the kind care the whole team gave to mum and for helping us through this sad time. She received excellent care and as a family we received so much support.
From a grateful daughter
Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding whilst our charity shops have been closed. We are starting to open up again!
Opening times (please make sure you check our social media for DAILY UPDATES on opening times at the Donation Centre as when we hit capacity for donations we have to close and we wouldn’t like anyone to have a wasted trip):
We know lots of you have items ready to donate and for that, we are truly grateful. We will need your donations, and your custom, more than ever.
Given the current situation, we will need to accept donations in a very controlled manner. Our Donation Centre at Dale Industrial Estate in Radcliffe is accepting donations between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm, Monday to Friday only. Please note that we have limited space so we may close early if we hit capacity. Keep an eye on our social media for updates.
Also, we will not be accepting donations at any of our other shops until further notice as we are unable to implement the required social distancing measures.
We will also be quarantining donations for 72 hours before they are sorted, meaning a lack of storage space is likely to be an issue.
One big thing you can do before donating is check we can take your goods. We’ve put together checklists below to help you help us. This will help us save time and cut down on waste, meaning more time and money can go towards supporting patients and those close to them.
Watch this space! We will post more updates very soon about when you can shop, donate and volunteer – as well as, crucially, how we will be keeping you all safe. Thank you again for your patience.
Our charity shops generate approx. 20% of the income we need each year to provide the care and support we offer to our patients and their families. They are also a valuable presence for us in the local community, helping to raise awareness of Bury Hospice and the work we do.
Supporting our shops is one of the easiest ways you can help us, either by donating any new or pre-owned items (clothes, toys, furniture, home-ware, books, accessories etc.) or by treating yourself to some of the vast array of goods, gifts and cards on sale in our shops.
Our shops stock a wide range of good quality women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, home textiles, bric-a-brac, electrical goods, books and toys etc.
Our Boutique shop in the centre of Bury, sells a wide range of high quality ladies wear, including evening gowns, bridesmaid dresses and accessories.
Our Bridal Boutique sells a fabulous array of new and pre-loved wedding gowns, accessories, veils, hats and jewellery, as well as a selection of bridesmaid dresses and formal wear.
Our Furniture Showroom stocks a wide range of high quality pre-loved furniture and accessories for all rooms in the home as well as a range of electrical goods.
Our eBay shop sells an incredible selection of antiques, collectables and unusual items. Find us at: https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/BuryHospice-eshop/
Donated Goods & Distribution Centre
Dale Industrial Estate, Radcliffe – Tel: 0161-725-8405
Opening Times: Monday to Saturday 9:30am to 4:30pm – Sunday – Closed
Our shops could not survive without the dedicated support of over 150 valued volunteers. These roles vary from receiving and logging donated goods at our warehouse, organising and displaying goods in our shops, assisting customers and generally ensuring our shops operations run smoothly.
We are always looking for new volunteers to help us so, if you can spare a few hours, just pop into one of our shops or contact Josie Bades on 0161-725-9800.
You can make donations at any of our shops between 9:30am and 4:00pm, as well as at our Donation & Distribution Centre at Unit 13, Dale Industrial Estate, Radcliffe. To arrange collections of furniture or large, bulky items please call 0161-725-8405.
Please note: We can only accept donations that are clean, in good working order and are saleable. Goods that you donate that are broken or that we are unable to resell or recycle have to be sorted and disposed of, which costs the Hospice and directs funds away from patient services. Our drivers always inspect goods to make sure they are suitable, so please do not be offended if your goods are rejected. If you are unsure, please call us on 0161-725-8405.
Gift Aid on donated goods
If you are a UK tax payer, we can increase the value of your donated goods through the Government’s Gift Aid scheme. This means that everything we sell is worth an extra 25% to us, at no additional cost to you! So, if we sell an item for £5.00, we can reclaim an additional £1.25, increasing its value to £6.25. This extra revenue makes a huge difference and enables us to support more and more people.
Ask in one of our shops for further details about Gift Aid on donated goods.
