Box Power donate staggering £40k to Bury Hospice!

Box Power donation

Bury Hospice has received a generous cash boost from energy consultancy firm, Box Power at a Charity Giving Event, which handed out £800,000 to more than 20 charities across the North West to help the local community.

Box Power is a non-profit organisation, created by Corin and Tricia Dalby, that gives the money they raise back to charities so they can support communities.

Helen Lockwood, Chief Executive at Bury Hospice said the money will benefit the Hospice in a number of ways. She said: “It was a pleasure to share with Corin and Tricia the work of Bury Hospice when they visited us and to have been selected as one of their chosen charities is an honour. We are absolutely delighted to receive the very kind gift of £40,000 from Box Power. As a charity that needs to source over 75% of our running costs, donations such as this one make a significant difference in enabling us to reach more people with more choice with the care and support that they choose for themselves.”

Corin and Tricia Dalby have lived in Bolton for most of their lives. For Corin, it hasn't been an easy road - severely bullied throughout his childhood, teenage years and time in the army, he developed a bad stammer. But it was at this point that he met Tricia who gave him the support and encouragement he needed to begin his career working at a gas company where had to be on the phone, calling people, almost constantly - something which terrified him at the time.

Despite his stammer staying with him right up until today, Corin says he "adapted" and, after excelling in the industry, it wasn't long before he owned his own energy consultancy business which he sold in 2012 after his and Tricia's son, Benjamin, was diagnosed with autism.

The couple were blown away by the support they received from the community and local support groups following this so, in 2014, they decided to create Box Power - the UK's first philanthropic energy consultancy firm that donates all of its profits back into the community.

The couple have already donated £30,000 to various charities but, for the past few years, have been saving up and, in June, opened up applications for charities of all types and sizes across the North West to apply for part of the funding. Over 200 charities applied, and Corin and Tricia whittled that down to 25 after meeting with them in-person or over Zoom and feeling inspired by how passionate they were for their cause. They visited Bury Hospice in September which informed their decision to select Bury Hospice as a beneficiary.
